Prayagraj, 27 February 2025: The Green Maha Kumbh 2025 served as a major platform for environmental awareness and sustainability, integrating ecological responsibility with the cultural and spiritual essence of the Maha Kumbh. Organized as part of the Gyan Maha Kumbh – 2081 series by Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, the event saw the participation of over 1,000 environmental and water conservation experts from across the country.

Key Discussions on Environmental Conservation

The discussions at Green Maha Kumbh focused on:

  • Environmental issues, including nature conservation, water management, and sanitation.
  • Balancing the five elements of nature through sustainable practices.
  • Sharing best practices in environmental conservation and cleanliness.
  • Engaging devotees in sustainability efforts during Maha Kumbh.

Experts from various fields shared insights on tackling environmental challenges and implementing eco-friendly solutions. Special emphasis was placed on raising awareness among visitors to promote a cleaner and greener Maha Kumbh.

Miyawaki Forests: Large-Scale Tree Plantation Initiative

A significant step towards greenery expansion was the Miyawaki forest initiative, which resulted in:

  • 119,700 saplings of 63 species planted across 34,200 square meters in 2023-24.
  • Transformation of Buswar dumping yard into a green zone with 27,000 saplings.
  • Planting of eco-friendly species, including mango, neem, peepal, tamarind, Tulsi, Gul mohar, and medicinal plants.

Strengthened Sanitation and Waste Management

To ensure cleanliness and hygiene, extensive sanitation measures were implemented, including:

  • Deployment of 10,200 sanitation workers and 1,800 Ganga Sevaduts to maintain cleanliness.
  • 22,000 workers ensuring litter-free fairgrounds throughout the event.
  • Water treatment initiatives to maintain clean river water for bathing.
  • Strict plastic ban enforcement and promotion of biodegradable cutlery.
  • Installation of thousands of bio-toilets and automated garbage disposal units.

A Model for Sustainable Religious Gatherings

Through these initiatives, Maha Kumbh 2025 set a benchmark for environmental responsibility in large-scale religious events, ensuring sustainable practices that balance spiritual traditions with ecological conservation.
